Heartbroken Family Breaks Silence on the Mysterious Death of Mother Found in Brisbane River

The tragic death of 49-year-old Crystal Beale, a mother-of-two, has left her family reeling. Her body was discovered in the Brisbane River in Yeronga on the morning of February 22, initially not suspected of foul play. However, as the investigation unfolded and a post-mortem was conducted, police confirmed their worst fears: Crystal’s death is now being treated as a homicide.
Her daughter, Charlie-Rose Wagner, 22, shared her shock and devastation on social media, revealing how the situation had evolved. She recalled being assured at first that her mother’s death was not suspicious, but the new information has turned their world upside down. In a heartfelt plea, Charlie-Rose asked for anyone with information to come forward and help bring justice for her mother.

“At first, we were assured that her death was non-suspicious, but this has now taken a horrific turn, and I will never be the same again,” Charlie-Rose wrote. “I urge anyone who knows anything to please contact the police. Help me bring my mum to peace.”
Crystal was not only a devoted mother but also a friend loved by many. Charlie-Rose remembered her as “the most important woman I’ve ever known” and expressed that she would “choose you to be my mummy again in every single life.” Despite the painful loss, Charlie-Rose feels her mother’s presence around her, keeping her strength alive.

Crystal also leaves behind her 15-year-old son, who is also struggling with the loss of his mother. The family has been left in a state of confusion and sorrow as they wait for answers. Police released CCTV footage showing Crystal outside a restaurant in Sunnybank on February 21, hours before she was last seen. After dining with family and friends, she was dropped off in West End, the area where her family lives. The next morning, her body was discovered in the river, and investigators now believe she had been in the water for at least six hours before being found.
“At this stage, we do not believe Crystal died of natural causes. The injuries found during the post-mortem suggest that her death is suspicious,” said Detective Acting Inspector Rod Watts. Though there are no signs of a weapon being used, police are exploring all possibilities.

The investigation has led detectives to a number of potential leads, including Crystal’s former partner. There was an expired domestic violence order against him, but no current orders were in place. Although he is not a suspect at this point, he is one of many lines of inquiry police are following. They are still asking the public for help, urging anyone who was in the area between 9:30 PM and 1:00 AM on February 21 and 22 to come forward if they saw anything unusual.
“We are looking for any information to help us piece together what happened,” said Det. Insp. Watts. “At this time, we are still seeking answers for the family, and they want justice for Crystal.”

The heartbreaking tragedy has left Crystal’s children and family grappling with the sudden, unexplained loss. As police continue their investigation, the family holds onto the hope that they can finally find the truth about what happened to their beloved Crystal.
