Netflix Adds M. Night Shyamalan Thriller That Viewers Call ‘Insanely Unrealistic’

If you’re in the mood for a thriller that’ll have you questioning everything, Netflix just dropped Trap, M. Night Shyamalan’s latest suspense flick. But fair warning audiences have some strong opinions about this one.

Released in theaters last summer, Trap stars Oppenheimer’s Josh Hartnett as Cooper, a dad taking his teenage daughter to a concert. But here’s the twist he unknowingly walks into an FBI sting operation targeting a serial killer called The Butcher. As officers lock down every exit, searching for the suspect, Cooper has to think fast to avoid capture. The catch? He’s the guy they’re after.

Sounds intense, right? Well, not everyone is sold on it.

From the moment the trailer dropped, Trap sparked mixed reactions. Some were intrigued, but many felt the film was more about giving Shyamalan’s daughter, Saleka Night (who plays pop star Lady Raven), a platform than delivering a solid thriller.

Over on Rotten Tomatoes, critics gave it a lukewarm 57 percent, while audiences were slightly kinder with a 65 percent rating. One reviewer summed it up: “The first half was interesting, but then it turned into a campy version of MacGyver.”

The biggest complaint? The FBI’s portrayal. Many found it hard to believe that a serial killer could outmaneuver law enforcement so easily. One viewer called it “just insanely unrealistic in so many ways,” while another said, “Had high hopes with Shyamalan’s name attached, but the movie dragged for over an hour before anything actually happened.”

Not everyone hated it, though. Some praised Josh Hartnett’s performance, saying he carried the film despite its flaws. One fan wrote, “Ridiculous plot? Sure. But it’s still an entertaining watch.”

Love it or hate it, Trap is now streaming on Netflix so you can decide for yourself.
